Sicily or Not

So as a separate entry, I am going to deliver my verdict on Sicily.
It’s not for everyone. You should be able to see beauty beyond dilapidated facades. This is not the third world but not the first world either. But the bathrooms are clean and have toilet paper – a sure sign of civilization in my book.
There is nothing plastic here, no glitter, no glamor. It’s rural, it’s real. No wonder that so many Italian movies were shot here. It’s imperfect, it’s poor, it’s run down. But it gets under your skin. I can’t get it out of my mind – the ruins, the temples, the honey-colored buildings of Noto, and the glorious food, of course. Nothing gourmet usually, but the freshest there is. It’s like going back in time a little bit. Also, we were lucky to have Luca as our guide. Even though his English was often a puzzle to be solved, his knowledge of history and architecture was vast and his love for Sicily was contagious. So I say, if you are a bit adventurous, go for it. And if you end up not liking the island, you are still bound to have many good meals.
